This Sunday (4/23) we will be addressing Satan’s MO (modus operandi) taken from Genesis 3:1-6.  There we will expose Satan’s age old strategy of how he attacks and gains control of us.  One of the points to make will be that he will attack us when our guard is down...where we least expect it...where he knows we are vulnerable...where we think we have it under control.  Typically this happens in areas where we think we have fought to gain control over some “big” temptation and don’t pay attention to his subtle manipulations.  We become focused on what we deem “big” temptations...obvious temptations...temptations we pray for God’s strength to overcome, while at the same time not paying attention to what we think we’d never fall for.  That’s where our enemy will attack and cripple us.

Genesis 3:1 characterizes Satan as “crafty” (Hebrew aruwm – cunning, sly, subtle).    The Apostle Paul plainly tells us:

...our struggle is not against [a]flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.  (Ephesians 6:11-12)

One of those “schemes” is to attack us in areas that we’re not paying attention to.  The Apostle Peter admonishes us:

Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up.   (1 Peter 5:8  The Message Paraphrase)

My prayer for me and you this morning is this:  Lord, seems like our main problem is that we forget we are in a constant spiritual struggle.  We take our eyes off You and lackadaisically proceed in life not realizing our enemy is on the prowl...for our defeat.  Lord, help us to have that “cool head” and “stay alert” throughout our days.  Keep us close to Your word...hide Your truth in our hearts.

With all my heart I have sought You;
Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
11 I have treasured Your word in my heart,
So that I may not sin against You.
Psalm 119: 9-11

Amen.
