Sometimes we feel captive to our old sin nature…especially when it comes to what we think about.  The Word of God continually tells us that what we think about is where the battle will take place.  For example:

I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  (Matthew 5:28)…. out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, acts of adultery, other immoral sexual acts, thefts, false testimonies, and slanderous statements.  (Matthew 15:19)….  I see a different law in the parts of my body waging war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin (Romans 7:23… do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).

We know we shouldn’t be thinking about or entertaining sinful thoughts, but it becomes a struggle for us.  The struggle and our failures lead us to say, “Unless God does a super-natural work with our minds, we seem to be helpless failures.”  In other words, if God doesn’t clear our minds of unrighteous thoughts we can’t seem to have victory in keeping our minds pure before God.  So we go on “thought-sinning” and accept failure as just a part of who we are.

I resort again to that NIKE trademark:  JUST DO IT!  Don’t expect to be rid of old sin nature thinking.  It’s a struggle, but we can control what we allow ourselves to think about.  When the Holy Spirit convicts and reveals sinful thought patterns, it’s up to us to refuse to let those patterns take control of our thinking.  It’s our call to make it happen!  JUST DO IT!  Like Chambers said, “we must discipline ourselves”…God is not going to do it for us…we must become ruthless when impure thoughts want to invade our thought process.

My prayer for you and me this morning is this:  Lord, You know how we struggle with this.  Today we are reminded that it calls for self-disciple to stop unrighteous thoughts.  We know we must be in your Word as the Holy Spirit directs our thinking to where it should be.   Help us the see the battle for what it is.  We refuse to be helpless failures.  Amen.

 Psalm 119:57-60  The Living Bible

Jehovah is mine! And I promise to obey! 58 With all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful just as you promised. 59-60 I thought about the wrong direction in which I was headed, and turned around and came running back to you.

Walk with the King today and be a blessing.
